Local Lodge 389 nominations for officers and delegates are now open.

Members and retirees are officially notified that local lodge Officer and Delegate nominations and elections will be conducted on the following dates.

Local 389 Lodge Officer and Delegate nominations will occur during the regular business meeting on November 1, 2023 at 4:00pm at the Chula Vista Machinists Hall at 950 Park Way, Chula Vista, CA 91910.

Local 389 Lodge Office and Delegate election will occur during the regular business meeting on December 6, 2023 at 4:00pm at the Chula Vista Machinists Hall at 950 Park Way, Chula Vista, CA 91910.

The following Officer and Delegate Positions are up for nomination and election:

President

Vice President

Recording Secretary

Secretary Treasurer

Trustee (x3)

Conductor Sentinel

Cal Conference of Machinists Delegate (x2)

San Diego Building Association (x3)

SDIC Labor Counsel (x3)

Our May, 2023 General Business Meeting for Local Lodge 389 members is this Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at the San Diego Machinists Hall (5150 Kearny Mesa Rd., San Diego 92111) at 4:00 pm. There are only two more meetings scheduled for the Kearny Mesa location, so if this is the more convenient location for you to attend, be sure to get to these next two meetings. Meetings will be held at the Chula Vista Hall beginning in July.

Bring your friends and family out to Mercedes Benz of San Diego this Labor Day, September 5, 2022 and show your support for the IAM automotive mechanics on the strike line. A press conference will take place at 10am at the Kearny Mesa Machinists Hall and then we will march over to the dealership and the strike line. Food and refreshments will be provided. Celebrate this Labor Day by participating in some important union activity.

On Thursday, August 4, 2022, the union conducted an election for the precision machine tool mechanic seat that was vacant on the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Matthew Wisma and Ryan McCarty were both candidates and are both apprenticeship graduates at Solar Turbines. It was a small voting pool and the race was very tight with the decision being handed out by one vote. Congratulations to Ryan McCarty on winning the seat Special thanks to both candidates for running and exercising your union rights. Further thanks to those who voted. Union participation is what makes unions work.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 947 and Homeboy Industries are kicking off an E-waste recycling drive set to kick off August 10, 2022. We are looking for items people are able to recycle such as laptops, desk top computer towers, servers, smart phones and other electronics that can be refurbished and repurposed to aid Homeboy industries in their mission. We will not be accepting TVs or monitors at this time. There will be drop off locations in San Diego and Los Angeles area for the e-waste.

Homeboy industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. They provide hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated people, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community. The San Diego Machinists Building Association is having its annual general meeting and all members are invited. The meeting will be held at the Kearny Mesa Hall at 4pm on Monday, April 18, 2022. Food will be provided. The menu includes tri tip, ribs, chicken tenders with sides including mac and cheese, collard greens, potatoes salad and cornbread. Desert will be peach cobbler.

So come on out early and enjoy some good food, great friends and get acquainted with Building Association directors and see what they do for your San Diego Union halls. We hope to see you all there.
